The National Hellenic Museum will be closed to the public from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM on Friday, June 16 due to a private event.
We all know what a Greek salad is… Or do we?
Join the National Hellenic Museum for a special evening with Diane Kochilas, host and creator of the TV series My Greek Table. In this fun and informative talk and demo of the most iconic of all Greek dishes, Diane takes us on a journey across Greece—weaving in food history, culture and the exceptional regionality of Greek cooking. She’ll touch on the story and evolution of this “common” Greek recipe, making you think about it (and taste it) in a completely different light!
Food is often the first way that non-Greeks encounter Greek culture and the rich history these dishes pass from one generation to the next. Guided by Diane, we’ll learn about a wealth of Greek superfoods, regional variations on the Greek salad, the story of the tomato itself and how it arrived and flourished on Greek shores, and what happened when it was first tossed in America.
The evening begins with small bites, drinks and a cookbook signing with Diane at 6 p.m. followed by a talk and demonstration at 7:30 p.m.
