The Museum Will Be Closed Today, Saturday 1/18/25. We apologize for the inconvenience. Thank you.
Students will learn about the art and symbolism found in Ancient Greek pottery and shields. After discussing examples from the museum’s collection, they will design and create their own decorative shield or vase to take home, inspired by traditional patterns and figures.
Students will be introduced to the Greek alphabet and learn the symbolic meaning of select letters. They will then write their names using Greek characters and transform them into personalized pieces of art, decorating their names with traditional Greek motifs and designs.
Students will step into the shoes of early 20th-century immigrants by creating their own passports, taking a passport-style photo, and filling out a customs form modeled after the types of questions asked at Ellis Island. This interactive activity connects directly with the museum’s immigration exhibit and allows students to reflect on the immigrant journey in a personal and imaginative way.
